Providence Citywide Fire Network (PCFN) was formally incorporated on March 4, 1994. PCFN did exist previously for many years, as an extension of Boston Citywide. It's original members were Noel Kerkhoff,  John Troll, Ray Taylor, Rick Blais and Tim Delaney.

The main purpose of Providence Citywide is to act as a fire and emergency notification network for Rhode Island, nearby Southern Mass., and Southeastern CT areas. We currently operate 5 repeaters in the 400 MHz range. PCFN operates 24 Hours a day 7 days a week. We also assist the busy Canteen Units that are operated by the Special Signal Fire Association, in conjunction with the Local Chapter of the Salvation Army. We have also joined Task Force 1 and provide Emergency Communications for the Salvation Army's Disaster Services.

Mobile units along with six fixed base stations provide almost immediate notification of local events as they are happening. On scene units keep the members and other listeners well informed of incident status as it occurs.

Our membership includes people from many different occupations sharing a common interest of fire buffing. Membership continues to grow from year to year and a crowd favorite is our Annual Public Safety Expo. Our newsletter which features departmental histories, events, and photographs of area incidents of interest is published Quarterly. .

Over the last few years we have added a few things to our group. One being a fully functional Dispatch Center, this center is staffed by dispatchers during peak times and this make the visiting buff feel at home with information about events in the city and direction to incidents if needed. We currently operate 2 FCC licensed  repeaters to Citywide in the RI Area and are planning more in the coming year. Our Website has taken Citywide to the masses and we also have live audio for the Providence Fire & Police Departments.

Anyone wishing more information about our organization, please contact us via our e-mail address.
